Inspired by the eye-grabbing typeface Lubalin Graph, we created a jewelry line to mimic the provocative anti-establishment legacy set by Herb Lubalin.
Each pair of earrings is made out of numbers from statistics depicting flaws in the current system of sex education in the United States.
Some of these statistics include:
27 states in the US mandate that abstinence be stressed in sex education curriculums.
13 states in the US require that information being discussed in sex education curriculums be factually and technically correct.
9 million dollars goes to abstinence-only programs in the United States every year.
These earrings mirror Herb Lubalin's abstract designs, the same style he used for anti-censorship and anti-war protests in the seventies.
We hope these earrings can spark conversation about systematic inequity embedded into the American sex education curriculum.
Abstinence only programs harm minority students by impeding their access to contraceptive information and/or abortion services. Current systems of sex education promote gendered stereotypes that violate rights protected in the constitution. This information should be common knowledge, sex education should not be a privilege.
